Few crops require additional combine settings and great attention to detail in order to harvest the crop efficiently such as soybean crops. The combine setting heavily depend upon the type of crop and harvesting conditions. 3. If the soybean crop is of the short variety, a few adjustments are needed in the settings of combine parts like reel, cutter bar, auger, and the feed conveyor chain, to ensure stems are getting fed into the feeder house very smoothly through the platform.

4. Routinely check the ledge plates, knives. Guards, ledges and wear plates. Also, keep the spare parts handy with you to avoid any hassle.

5. Make sure to check the sharpness of the sickle. The blunt sickle pushes the stems over instead of cutting them cleanly.

6. Check the operator’s manual and adjust the guards and header appropriately to ensure the correct engagement angle as summarized in the manual.

7. Check if stems are getting cleanly cut across the header section. If not, then examine the blades, header angle and other incorrect header settings which might be affecting cutting off the stems. You can also try by reducing the ground speed and check if it functioning smoothly.

8. Check the manual and try to adjust the reel speed and ground speed to match with crop conditions within the field. It is recommended to keep the reel speed by ~25% faster than the ground speed.

9. Since maximum loss occurs at the header section so it is advised to examine these areas especially the header part at the various stages and locations in the field to avoid the grain loss.

10. Ensure to lubricate and service the bearings and chains more often to avoid any kind of hassle during the work. Also, make a check of belts and chains routinely to make sure there are tight and working.
